The tower is inspired by the legend of the Tower of Babel, and the game takes that myth seriously: the inability to communicate is not just a puzzle mechanic here, it is the central source of conflict between every group you meet.

The Peoples of the Tower

Each civilisation occupying a floor has its own history, its own antagonism with the floors above and below, and its own reasons for keeping outsiders out. Learning a language is not purely mechanical, it is how you begin to understand who these people are, what they want, and what they are afraid of. The five civilisations range in tone from ascetic to militaristic, and each has a distinct visual and audio identity that supports the decoding process.

As you move between floors, fragments of each language carry meaning you did not know they had when you first heard them. Revisiting your notebook with new context changes what you thought you understood.

Observation, Hypothesis, Confirmation

The notebook is your main interface with the core loop. Assign a tentative meaning to a glyph, test it in context, and revise when it does not hold.
