Nintendo eShop is the digital storefront for Switch, and it runs on a Nintendo Account with a fixed country. That country determines which store the account sees, which currency it uses and which codes it will accept, and it is set once rather than adjusted per purchase.
This page carries the eShop credit we stock for Nintendo accounts.
What we stock for Nintendo
- Nintendo eShop Gift Cards. Prepaid credit added to the Nintendo Account balance and spent on games, DLC and subscriptions in the eShop.
The country setting is the thing to get right
A Nintendo eShop code is issued for one country and redeems only on an account registered to that country. A code bought for the wrong region will simply be rejected at redemption.
The country on a Nintendo Account can be changed, but not freely: any remaining balance is lost in the process, because balance is held in the previous country’s currency. In practice this makes the account country a fixed constraint for anyone who already has credit on it.
What eShop credit covers
Full games and DLC
Anything the regional eShop sells, including pre-orders and add-on content for games already owned.
Nintendo Switch Online
Individual and family memberships can be paid from the account balance, which avoids keeping a card on file for a child’s account.
Sales and discounts
The eShop discounts heavily and often. Credit sitting on the account is what makes it practical to buy during a sale rather than at the moment the decision is made.
Redeeming on a Switch
Open the eShop on the console, select the user profile, then choose Redeem Code. Credit applies to the Nintendo Account behind that profile, not to the console itself.
On a console with several profiles, the code lands on whichever account is selected when it is entered. Balance cannot be moved between accounts afterwards.
Before you buy
Confirm the account country against the region printed in the product title. A mismatch cannot be fixed after purchase, and changing the country to suit a code would clear any existing balance.
